Dallas LPC Intern Supervision 

I don't live in Dallas, can you still supervise me?
Yes.  Using Skype and doing supervision via webcam is allowable by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors.  However, no more than 50% of your hours can be via webcam.

What happens when we reach 50% of my hours via webcam?
As we approach 50%, we either plan to begin meeting face-to-face, or you must find another supervisor.  Fortunately, webcam-based supervision is convenient for many interns.  Unfortunately, I do not have the available time to travel to meet face-to-face with each supervisee.  We'll plan well in advance so you can continue to count your hours and no time is lost.  We discuss this in more detail as the time approaches.

How is the video and audio quality using webcam supervision?
Typically, it's very good.  It's dependent on many things, such as the speed of your internet service, the speed of your computer, the quality of your microphone and webcam, etc.  Tablets work too.  Proper lighting is also important.

What types of services do I need to provide to clients in order for my internship hours to count?
According the Texas State Board, "The experience must have consisted primarily of the provision of direct counseling services within a professional relationship to individuals or groups by using a combination of mental health and human development principles, methods, and techniques to achieve the mental, emotional, physical, social, moral, educational, spiritual, or career-related development and adjustment of the client throughout the client's life."

What times are available for web-based supervision?
Evenings are most convenient for interns, usually starting at about 5:30 PM.  Some weekend morning and afternoon appointments are available, but these times are typically reserved for make-up sessions.  Appointments are always scheduled.

How long do the supervision sessions last?
Approximately one hour.  When I have an appointment scheduled immediately after yours, we might end our session a minute or two short of 60 minutes.

What happens if I cancel or forget about a supervision session?
If you cancel on the day of our scheduled session, or you don't show up for our scheduled session, you will be charged your regular session rate.  If you cancel prior to the day of our scheduled session, there is no charge.

What should I expect during our supervision sessions?
I want you to become the best counselor you can be.  So, we discuss many things.  Your clients.  Difficulties.  Successes. Methods. Techniques.  Your development as a counselor and as a professional.  Networking.  Ethics.  Rules. You name it.
